Aquino III served as the guest of honor during the 36th Anniversary of Philippines-China Diplomatic Relations and 10th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day in Manila Hotel. In his message, President Aquino thanked the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Incorporated (FFCCCII) for their continuous support and partaking to the administration. He particularly mentioned the Operation Barrio Schools project of FFCCCII that will provide a total of 8200 classrooms all over the country. He also said that the long-time trade of Philippines and China has brought mutual benefits to both countries. Further, the President invited the Filipino-Chinese trading partners to engage in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects and invest in the Philippines. The Chief Executive highlighted the friendship that both countries had shared over the past years. He said that he recognize all contributions made by FFCCCII were not given by Chinese people but by true-blooded Filipinos to their fellow Filipinos. The Filipino-Chinese community also celebrated the 113th Philippine Independence Day and 150th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal. With this, the President, together with FFCCCII officials, presented the Plaque of Honor to the two descendants of Dr. Jose Rizal. The Intersection of Science and Security: a Case Study Approach Continuing the global dialogue with the scientific and science policy community with a focus on Asia and the Western Pacific On December 9, 2011 the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) sponsored a workshop, The Intersection of Science and Security: a Case Study Approach, Continuing the global dialogue with the scientific and science policy community: focus on Asia and the Western Pacific. The purpose of this workshop was to give attendees a greater understanding of dual use research, including an awareness of strategies for managing dual use research of concern and an appreciation of how these issues are being addressed around the globe. The workshop utilized published articles as case studies, involving Mousepox and a SARS-like virus, as examples of dual use research of concern that highlight issues which investigators, institutions, journal editors, governments, and the scientific and security policy communities need to consider. In addition to presentations of the case studies, there were discussions among all panelists and attendees on global science and security issues as well as those of special interest within Asia and the Western Pacific, including information on training and education resources currently available.
